Members of the Rotary Club of the Isle of Sheppey stepped out in a sponsored walk which raised £1,000 for the Paul Trigwell Memorial Fund.

Mr Trigwell was the much–respected head teacher of St George’s Middle School, Chequers Road, Minster, who died suddenly in September 2006.

Outgoing Rotary president, the Rev Gilbert Spencer led 25 walkers on a six-mile trek from remote Harty Church, which took in Muswell Manor, Shellness, and a walk along the shore back to the church.

A club spokesman said it was a very successful fund–raising exercise and thanked not only those who took part but also those who sponsored the walkers.

He added: “Rotarians raise thousands of pounds every year for local charities and we are particularly pleased to have raised £1,000 from this one event because it will be going to a very worthy cause.”
