HERE is your chance to take part in an unusual abseiling record attempt.

And you can support the children's road safety charity Kent Walking Bus Project and the Medway Sunlight Centre at the same time.

On Saturday, May 12, an abseil down the side of a submarine will take place at the Historic Dockyard, Chatham. This Kent Charity Challenge was staged for the first time last year and attracted 60 participants, now event promoters are hoping to set a new record for the numbers taking part.

KentOnline readers can take part by pledging to raise a minimum of £75 in sponsorship.

A maximum of 70 participants will abseil from the deck of the submarine HMS Ocelot into the dry dock.

A further 20 people, who raise the most sponsorship money, will have the option to abseil from the top of the submarine tower.

To take part and to receive an abseil pack go to www.kentwalkingbus.org and click on the Kent Charity Challenge section of the website.

Kent Messenger Community and Charity Projects Manager Simon Dolby said: "KM publicised this super event last year and it was a big success, but now we want to test the bravery of our readers and see if we can set a new record for the number of participants taking part in this unusual Kent Charity Challenge."

Sponsors needed to support event

THREE organisations are needed to sponsor the record atempt with a donation of £700 each.

This funding will cover the cost of the equipment and technical staff from Avalon Adventures who operate the record attempt on the day.

Supporting businesses will have a story published to highlight their backing of the charity event and also have their logo printed on the event form each week. For details call Simon Dolby on 07989 164 752.
