Parkside Community Primary School was presented with the vouchers during a special assembly attended by the scheme’s mascot, Buster Bug, and Canterbury Rotary Club president Harry Cragg.

Canterbury Rotary is supporting the school with funding for the book club, which uses competitions and other incentives to encourage pupils to spend more time reading for pleasure at home.

Prizes include a Class of the Week Trophy, celebrity story-time visits, and tickets to attractions such as Historic Dockyard Chatham, Wildwood, Diggerland and Leeds Castle.

Buster’s Book Club literacy coordinator Kay Devine said: “Many, many thanks to Harry and Canterbury Rotary for supporting Parkside Community Primary with Buster’s. We look forward to working with both parties in the future.

“Thanks also to Wildwood for giving the school free-entry vouchers to the park.

“They will provide a real incentive to encourage the children at Parkside Community to log even more home-reading minutes, and that can only have a positive impact on literacy levels at the school.”

Buster’s Book Club is also supported by Little Cheyne Court wind farm, the Kent Community Foundation, Golding Vision, Orbit, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, Kent and Medway councils, Specsavers, Acorns Read & Grow and Hornby.
