Grace Stone of Regis Manor School, Sittingbourne, became the boss of Rare Breeds Centre, Ashford for the day following her fantastic submission to the 'Power of Persuasion' contest which is designed to persuade a friend to join in on the walk to school.

She said: "My favourite thing about being the boss of Rare Breeds is the ponies. I got to hold on their reigns and walk them, and even gave them a wash! I've also noticed a few things which could do with attending to such as a loose pole."

Davy McColm, Farm and Attractions Manager at Rare Breeds Centre, said: "It's been a really great and interesting day for Grace. She's covered the entire centre, checked things out and made a few notes. For a boss she hasn't been too demanding, but I'm sure that'll come! Grace is a lovely young lady and it has been a pleasure to work with her."

The farming attraction set within 100 acres of beautiful Kent countryside is a popular day out for families. Visitors enjoy indoor and outdoor encounters with a variety of farm and pet animals plus tractor rides, a play barn, shop and restaurant.

A number of activities Grace took part in included lambing, pig racing and inspection of the play area which features tyre climbs and a zip wire.

Organised by the KM Charity Team, the contest was promoted to 50,000 children across the county who partake in KM Walk to School or home reading initiatives Buster's Book Club and Reading Bug.

Simon Dolby, chief executive at the charity, said: "We are extremely grateful for the Rare Breeds Centre enabling us the opportunity to reward hard-working children like Grace with such a fantastic prize. She has enjoyed a variety of great activities throughout the day and really made a statement as the new boss in town!"

All future writing competitions are open to school children involved with KM Charity Team services. If you and your school would like to take part in KM Walk to School or home reading initiatives, please contact the team at 0844 264 0291
