The schools are successfully taking part in KM Walk to School schemes which include Walk on Wednesday (WOW) and Active Bug and have pledged to continue for the next three years.

The green travel heroes received Platinum Pledge award certificates at a ceremony staged at Kent Scouts HQ, Lower Grange Farm in Maidstone. They were congratulated by representatives of Kent County Council, Medway Council, Specsavers, Bel UK, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment and Circle Housing Russet.

The awards can be earned at bronze, silver, gold and platinum levels with additional accolades for schools that support specific schemes such as walking bus.

Platinum awards go to schools that have agreed to take part in WOW or Active Bug for three years and those who also have a walking bus receive platinum+.

Simon Dolby of the KM Charity Team said: “Thanks to schools taking part in the KM Walk to School campaign we have removed a quarter of a million school run car journeys from the road. That’s a staggering achievement and I am thrilled these schools have made the commitment to keep up the good work for years to come.”

Organisations supporting KM Walk to School include Ashford Borough Council, Maidstone Borough Council, Orbit South, Golding Vision (part of Golding Homes), Leeds Castle, Whitefriars shopping area, Safer Kent, Bexley Council, and Eurostar.
