The awards are designed to reward the county’s schools going above the line of duty by providing pupils with creative methods to optimise their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

Multilingual practices have been recognised in the categories with the Most successful programme for engaging pupils with English as second language award.

Foreign language staff or those who are successfully managing a classroom with culturally diverse students can be thanked for the efforts in this category.

Nominations are now open and are accepted from parents, pupils, teachers, support staff and management at primary and secondary schools across Kent, Medway and Bexley.

Simon Dolby, chief executive at the KM Charity Team which organises the awards, said: “In our ever-evolving world, schools are welcoming a multitude of pupils with connections that span the globe. Teachers and school staff being able to actively advance the literacy skills of those children with English as an additional language are readying them for a very bright future.”

He added: “The Kent Literacy Awards were created to say thank you to the hard-working staff across the county which are preparing the next generation for a better, more fruitful future. If you’d like to commend a school for their creative excellence, why not submit a nomination.”

All nominations will be judged by the Kent Literacy Awards panel made up of key partners including Social Enterprise Kent (SEK), The Canterbury Tales, Hallett & Co., Medway Council, Kent County Council, Golding Vision (Part of Golding Homes), Beanstalk, School News Group, Southern Educational Leadership Trust (SELT) and Three R’s Teacher Recruitment.

The winners will be invited to an awards celebration evening at Hempstead House Hotel, Sittingbourne at the end of June.

A summary of all the winning submissions will be published and circulated to every school in the region, further promoting the schemes such schools provide.

All nominations must be received by noon on April 29. To submit one or more, visit www.kentliteracyawards.co.uk
