A fundraising golf day took place at the stunning Broome Park Golf Club in Canterbury last month.

The winning team this year came from the Maidstone office of insurance broker Vizion, whose four-ball won with a score of 91 points, narrowly pipping teams from Mainstream Staff Supplies in Sittingbourne and Canterbury plant-hire firm Ovenden.

Individual winners on the day included Ovenden’s Alex Markwick, who won the Stableford tournament with a score of 43 points.

It was also a good day for Michael Keaveney from Ashford-based civil engineering firm Keaveney Group, whose team won the putting competition and who picked up two in-play competition prizes.

Once again, Barclays Bank was the main supporter of the day.

Barclays’ Jason Raggatt explained: “We love supporting this great event. Lots of businesses get involved and it is a chance to network and chat about golf.

“The money raised goes to a brilliant charity and one that does a great deal of good within schools.”

Car dealer Barretts of Canterbury displayed some of its stunning cars, which together with Broome Park’s dazzling mansion provided a beautiful backdrop to the 18-hole course.

Organiser Dominic Comins said: “It has been brilliant. The venue is stunning, the weather was perfect and everyone had a super day.

“It’s a great testament to Kent, the way people have once again come along and supported our charity.”

Planning for the 2019 golf event is now under way. If you are interested in sponsoring the event or perhaps entering a team, please email dcomins@thekmgroup.co.uk.

Buster’s Book Club encourages children to read extra at home with classes competing each week to be awarded the Reading Class of the Week Trophy. A monthly inter-school reading challenge awards winning classes tickets to leisure attractions or visits by storytellers.
