Nominations are open for the Kent Charity Awards 2024, launched by last year’s winner Spadework

Give a hard-working charity you know and love the recognition it deserves.

Nominations are now open for this year’s Kent Charity Awards, giving volunteers, charities and trustees in the county who dedicate their time and effort to helping others a chance to shine.

The 2024 awards were launched at the home of Spadework, a West Malling charity that helps people with learning and physical disabilities, people living with dementia and those experiencing mental health problems.

Spadework was named Kent Charity of the Year in 2023 and, along with representatives from organisations all over the county including the Kent Community Foundation, announced that the awards will go ahead for the ninth year.

CEO of Spadework Kris Healey, Kent Charity Awards head judge Susan Robinson and Kent Community Foundation chief executive Josephine McCartney were at the launch to encourage charities to “shout out” about what they do.

“We were delighted to be asked to host the launch of the Kent Charity Awards 2024,” says Kris. “When Spadework was named Kent Charity of the Year in 2023 it was a recognition of the hard work and commitment of our trainees, staff, trustees and volunteers.

“The last few years have been challenging for us, as for many charities, with a growing demand for our services and increased uncertainty around statutory funding.

“We are grateful to have the support of many trusts, foundations, businesses, community groups and individuals. This has enabled us to continue to provide our services in these challenging times.

“As a result of winning our award, we have connected with many more people. In 2024, as we celebrate our 40th anniversary, it is the perfect time to showcase our charity through the lens of being Kent Charity of the Year.”

You can find a full list of categories and nominate your chosen charity here. The deadline is Friday, April 19 with the judging process beginning in late May and the awards ceremony taking place on Thursday, September 5.

The Kent Charity Awards are sponsored by Kreston Reeves, Medway Council, CCWorks, Kent Community Foundation, AMEY, CAF Bank, Financial Advice & Services, KM Media Group and Brachers.
