Charity football match raises more than £500 for prostate cancer scanners

Charity was the winner after a sponsored end of term soccer match between students and staff at Hartsdown Technology College.

Students filled the Hartsdown Park stadium of Margate FC to cheer on the sides in a no-holds-barred 2-2 draw with the teachers winning a penalty shoot-out.

More than £520 will be shared between the Dad’s Quest prostate cancer awareness appeal - which is backed by the Thanet Extra and kmfm radio - and Margate FC.

The match was kicked off by kmfm Thanet breakfast presenter Johnny Lewis.

Dad’s Quest founder Charlie Pepper said: “It was a great game with a fabulous result for the charity and the club. My thanks go to everyone who has supported and helped stage our events since January that have already raised more than £4,000 towards our £16,000 target for two mobile scanners. A big pat on the back goes to the staff and students at the college who have been magnificent, and to the team at the Thanet Extra and kmfm who have really helped us get our message across.”

Future events include another free PSA prostate cancer screening evening at the Pavilion, Harbour Street, Broadstairs, from 6.30pm on Thursday April 16 ; an Easter bonnet tea dance at Hartsdown College, Margate, from 2pm-4pm on Friday, April 17,; a nosh and knowledge at the college from 7pm on Friday, April 24, with the £5 entrance fee including a fish and chip supper.
