MEDWAY Yacht Club will receive their Volvo RYA Champion Club award at this weekend’s Dinghy Sailing Show in London.

Medway will be presented with the prestigious award by double Olympic sailing gold medallist Ben Ainslie and three times European Laser sailor Paul Goodison at the Alexandra Palace event.

The Yacht Club have received this status because of their high delivery level in coaching young people and commitment toward the development of youth sail racing.

“The club are excited about being awarded this status,” said former principal Mark Perry.

“It recognises the hard work that everybody has put in over the last four years in helping to teach the younger members of the club how to race.”

Established in 1997, Champion Club Status helps clubs like Medway enhance their junior race training. As a result, Medway will receive increased levels of development advice and support from their local RYA high performance manager and an improvement in coaching and facilities for young people.

With this improvement, the club will have the opportunity to act as a springboard for talented youngsters to progress and hone their skills in the RYA youth and Olympic programmes.
