Checkatrade Trophy tie at West Bromwich Albion gives Gillingham chance of confidence-boosting win, says boss Justin Edinburgh

Boss Justin Edinburgh is eager to make the most of Tuesday night’s Checkatrade Trophy dead-rubber against West Bromwich Albion.

The Gills face a West Brom XI in their final group match at The Hawthorns but both teams are already out.

Millwall and Luton have booked their place in the next round, leaving the Gills to fight it out with the Baggies to avoid finishing bottom of the group.

Bradley Garmston will be involved after missing the start of the season with a knee injury while Bournemouth loanee Baily Cargill is also set for his first run-out after returning to full training.

Edinburgh said: “It is a game that we would like to think we can get a result from, win the game and lift the confidence. On the flip side, we don’t want to go there and get beaten.

“In terms of looking forward to Saturday (against Northamption), it will get a few people some minutes under their belt that would stand us in good stead for the forthcoming games.”

Ryan Jackson is expected to be involved following his recovery from a groin injury. Edinburgh is also likely to involve midfielders Darren Oldaker and Mark Byrne.

Winger Elliott List will miss the trip through suspension after picking up bookings in the previous two Trophy matches and Bradley Dack (hamstring) is unlikely to be involved, as is Frank Nouble, who limped off on Saturday with a hamstring injury.
