Remeao Hutton has joined Gillingham for an undisclosed fee on a permanent deal from fellow League 2 side Swindon Town

Gillingham have completed a permanent deal to sign Swindon Town wing-back Remeao Hutton.

The 25-year-old had been strongly linked with a move to Priestfield and his arrival has now been confirmed.

Hutton was left out of Swindon’s team last weekend because he “wasn’t in the right frame of mind” according to their former boss Michael Flynn, who was sacked on Monday.

Speaking to the Gills following his move, Hutton said: "Everyone seems really friendly here so I can't wait to get going. The new owners are looking to grow the club and I want to be a part of that.

"I know a few of the lads already so that was a factor in coming here. I want to create as many chances as possible."

Head Coach Stephen Clemence added: “I am delighted that we have managed to secure Remeao’s signature. We have worked very hard to get this over the line and I am so happy to have him here.

“He is an athletic player who likes to get forward and his crossing from wide areas is superb.

“He will be a real asset to the team and we are very much looking forward to working with him.”

Only two other players in League 2 provided more assists than Hutton did last season and his arrival will be seen as a big help in getting the team to score more goals.

Stockport County were also understood to have been interested in the right-sided defender.

For the Gills, the lack of goals hasn’t just been down to poor finishing but a lack of quality delivery into the box. With the team now playing a 3-5-2 formation Hutton will be a natural fit down the right flank.

Hutton – who also possesses a long throw – has previously been with Birmingham City as a youngster and enjoyed loans at Yeovil Town and Stevenage before moving to Barrow for a season in 2021/22. He’s been at Swindon since 2022.

Flynn - a former Gills player - was sacked as Swindon manager on Monday, after eight months in charge following their 2-1 defeat to Crewe on Saturday. He had only signed a contract extension in November. Gavin Gunning has been put in charge as a caretaker.
