The Medway Messenger Mini Youth Games continued on Wednesday with more than 200 children contesting the hockey tournament.

Held at Holcombe Hockey Club, this was the second event of the multi-sport programme, organised by Medway Council’s Sports Development Team, which runs throughout the school year.

There were 21 schools taking part, each playing 10 matches, and, after all the points were collated, Hempstead Primary School took the top honours ahead of Featherby Junior School, Gillingham, and Miers Court Primary School, Rainham.

The competition also promotes consideration and respect between sides and Allhallows Primary School, Rochester, took the fair play award.

The sports development team would like to thank everyone involved including the staff and volunteers from Holcombe Hockey Club, Anchorians Hockey Club, Greenacre School Sports Partnership and Howard School Sports Partnership.

The next Mini Youth Games event is the mini netball tournament on October 16, at the Rainham School for Girls.
