Sherwin Knight Junior School were crowned overall winners of the Medway Messenger Mini Youth Games last Wednesday.

The final event of the Games took place at Deangate Ridge, Hoo and more than 300 children from 37 different primary schools took part in the athletics tournament.

Going into the event, five schools were still in contention to be crowned overall series champions.

Miers Court Primary School finished as overall series runners-up while St Margarets Junior School and Featherby Junior School took third.

Walderslade Primary School were the best placed small school while Hilltop Primary School won the overall fair play award for the first time in their history.

Miers Court Primary School were also runners-up in the overall fair play award while Kingfisher Primary School finished third.

Hundreds of children from across Medway have been taking part in the Games since last October. They have enjoyed a variety of sports including hockey, netball, rugby, swimming, table tennis, mini tennis and kwik cricket.

Medway Messenger editor Bob Bounds, who presented the awards last Wednesday, said: “It’s been another fantastic year and we’re delighted to support the games.

“Everyone taking part has shown great enthusiasm for all of the events and our congratulations go to the overall winners, Sherwin Knight.”

The Medway Messenger Mini Youth Games are organised by Medway Council’s Sports Development Team with the aim of providing a safe environment to promote and encourage lifelong participation in sport.
