Transfer deadline day: Gillingham set to loan out keeper Tom Hadler and striker Greg Cundle, but don't need to rush

Gillingham don’t need to rush into making decisions on loans for some of their younger players.

Goalkeeper Tom Hadler is expected to be loaned out soon following the recent signing of Reading keeper Jonathan Bond.

Hadler started the season as back-up to Stuart Nelson but is now third choice.

The Gills can loan players to National League sides and below outside of the domestic transfer window, which closes today (Wednesday).

Young striker Greg Cundle, who was on the bench against Luton Town on Tuesday night, may also benefit from a loan stint.

On Hadler’s situation, boss Justin Edinburgh said: “He would be going to a Conference team or below. We can loan to those leagues anytime.”

And on 19-year-old Cundle, the manager said: “It is possible. We could do that moment to month. We want to continue their development and make sure they are getting enough minutes because that is where they learn when they are playing.”

Cundle enjoyed some loan spells last season, impressing at Tilbury and East Grinstead, hitting 14 goals for the latter. He also spent time with Margate.
