Ady Pennock glad he accepted chance to be head coach at Gillingham

Ady Pennock endured a tough four months as Gills boss but he insists he doesn’t regret taking on the job.

The club’s former captain returned as head coach at the start of the year following the sacking of Justin Edinburgh.

Gillingham were going backwards under Edinburgh and Pennock was unable to arrest the slide, with off-field problems leaving him fire fighting throughout his reign.

“I’ve no regrets at all,” said the 46-year-old, who has already vowed to weed out the bad apples in the squad if given a chance.

“It was a good challenge and I think it’s a great football club.

“I am not just saying it because I played there and I live here, I honestly believe this is a really good football club and the potential here is phenomenal.”

Pennock has a two-year plan to get Gillingham into the Championship and hopes chairman Paul Scally gives him the chance to put it into action.

“The club can only go one way and I do believe that,” he said.

“I have a two-year project to get into the Championship, if we can, but we will have to wait and see.

“The structure of the football side has to be better, there is no real structure. That is the bigger picture.”
