Rochester United manager Matt Hume resigns

Matt Hume quit as Rochester boss after their 5-3 FA Vase defeat by Lancing.

Hume has found it increasingly difficult to devote the time needed and made up his mind to leave after Saturday’s first qualifying round defeat.

He will, though, take charge for one last time when United visit Sheppey this weekend.

Hume, whose side are bottom of the Southern Counties East Premier Division, said: “It’s been on my mind for some time.

“I’m so busy with work and personal commitments and, because of that, I don’t feel I can give everything that needs to be given to the club and the job.

“Clearly it’s going to be a difficult job this year and you need a manager who can give that commitment.

“It’s not that I don’t want to do it, I just haven’t got the time.

“If I can’t give 100% then it’s not fair on myself or the club.

“It’s a great club and it deserves a manager who has more time and a fresh enthusiasm to take it forwards.”
