Gillingham striker Lewis Walker has been sent out on loan.

The 24-year-old missed the opening two months of the season out injured but is now fit and needs match minutes. He’s joined National League side Woking on a short-term loan deal until January.

Woking sit ninth in the top-tier of non-league football and are away to AFC Fylde this Saturday.

Walker picked up a knee injury playing in a pre-season match at Dover but has recently been able to feature in B Team fixtures.

He made a brief appearance against Millwall in a behind-closed-doors match at the training ground and then played an hour against Dartford on Tuesday in a friendly at Priestfield, providing a couple of assists.

The Gills will assess his time at Woking before deciding whether to introduce him back into their League 2 squad.

Walker joined the Gills ahead of last season, having spent time in Italy. Most of his 17 league appearances came off the bench, with just four starts and without a goal.

He did, however, find the net three times last season in the EFL Trophy and scored the winner and the only goal of the game against Fylde, in the FA Cup.
