Kevin Watson admits he might be his own worst enemy when it comes to player negotiations.

The Chatham manager has told players what he expects and what they can expect from life at Maidstone Road.

And he admits his honesty may have put a few off.

He said: “It might be detrimental but I’ve been honest with players.

“I am sure I have lost out on players but I’m looking at the long-term picture. People might enjoy it more and be more likely to come back again if you’re honest.

“I’m not criticising those who do things differently but if you want to give people an enjoyable time, then it’s no point giving them false information.”

Watson has got nine people retained from last season’s squad.

They are Liam Hickey, Lewis Knight, Joe Bingham, George Humber, Kieran McCann, Connor French, Joe Loft, Lawrence Collins and Corey Holder.

Austin Edwards and Ryan Nicholls have been promoted from the under-21s while Matt Solly and Jack Bradshaw will continue their rehabilitation from
injuries.

Watson said: “We’re in the Ryman League, South now and need to make a statement.”
