Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett will wait before deciding whether to postpone match with Gillingham

Gillingham’s game at Portsmouth next week is on - for now.

Pompey have a trio of players called up for international duty next week and are entitled to call off the game against the Gills.

Steve Evans’ men are due to play at Portsmouth on Saturday, October 12.

Pompey have already had a couple of postponements in the early weeks of the season, including one against Southend, after opting to call that one off during an international weekend.

Boss Kenny Jackett had injury concerns as well as international call-ups, leading to the Southend game being called off. He will assess his squad after Saturday before deciding whether they will be hosting the Gills next Saturday.

First-choice keeper Craig MacGillivray has been called up by Scotland, while Ross McCrorie is with their under-21 squad. Midfielder Ronan Curtis is involved with the Republic of Ireland squad.

In addition, they may be losing Ryan Williams and are waiting to see if he is called up for the Australia squad. Williams has only made two 45-minute appearances in the league so far, however.

Jackett is keen to meet the Gills on the 12th but said: “That (Williams’ situation) might have an impact (on the decision) and we’ll also assess the injury situation, so we’ll make a decision on Saturday night or first thing on Sunday.

“I’m going to play the game if at all possible because we don’t want to go 14 days between league matches.”

The Gills haven’t had any of their senior players called up for international duty but youngster Matthew Baker is involved with Wales' under-17s squad.

They have UEFA under-17 qualifying games against Slovenia, the Netherlands and Kosovo in the coming days.
