Southampton reached the Semi-Final of the competition in 2022/23 before Saints were knocked out by Newcastle.

The teams last met at Priestfield in League 1 during the 2009/10 campaign when Gillingham won 2-1 thanks to goals from Rene Howe and Josh Gowling.

Gillingham won 2-0 at AFC Wimbledon at this stage of the competition last season before knocking out Exeter and Brentford on penalties before losing 2-0 at Wolves in December.

The match against Championship outfit Southampton is due to take place week commencing Monday, August 7.

On a busy day of cup draws, Gillingham’s EFL Trophy Group opponents were also completed. The Gills will take on Fulham U21s along with Leyton Orient and Portsmouth in Group E.

Gillingham will travel to Stockport on the first day of the League 2 season after the league programme was also released earlier in the day.
