Gillingham to wait on scans after Danny Lloyd is injured in the League 1 match at Ipswich Town

Gillingham forward Danny Lloyd thanked the medical team at Ipswich Town for their help after suffering a nasty looking knee injury.

Lloyd was Gills’ main man in the game against Ipswich and came close to scoring in both halves, with the home goalkeeper and the woodwork denying him. He now faces an anxious wait over an injury that led to him being stretchered off.

Following the 1-0 loss, Lloyd thanked fans for their messages of support and wrote on Twitter: “If we perform like we have done this week for the remaining games we will pick up points. I will do everything I can to get back on the pitch asap.

“Big thank you to the Ipswich Town medical team who helped me off the pitch.”

Gillingham boss Neil Harris will certainly hope he’s back quickly, having been impressed with the hard-working forward. Lloyd will now go for scans to see the extent of the injury.

Harris said: “We will just have to see in the next 24-48 hours but he was outstanding again and he gives us that spark and that brightness and goal threat. He is a clever player and has that work ethic.”

Harris wasn’t impressed with the referee’s decision to let the play go on, however, with Lloyd down, clearly in pain. He even stepped on the pitch while play continued in an effort to get it halted.

“Everyone in the stadium could see it was a bad injury,” said the Gills boss, who was desperate to get his player some medical assistance.

“Why was the game not been stopped? I certainly had my say. It was a bad injury, I made my point clear to the opponent’s bench that I thought they should have kicked it out, players might not have seen it on the pitch, but that is what the fourth officials are for, to protect the players.

He added: “When a player went down with a head injury the game was stopped immediately.”
