Gillingam’s player talks have moved into a second day.

Manager Steve Evans is meeting with all of his first team squad following the end of the League 1 season.

Evans was keen to meet his players following the decision by League 1 clubs to curtail the 2019/20 campaign.

The Gills ended the season 10th place on points per game.

Gillingham have around 17 senior players in their squad and about half of them are on deals that expire this month. The club tweeted on Wednesday that meetings would continue into a second day.

They added late in the day that “the gaffer plans to update supports on Friday.”

Evans has known for sometime which players he wants and which he doesn’t but was keen to meet everyone face to face to tell them of his intentions.

Among those on expiring deals are captain Max Ehmer.

The 28-year-old German centre-half has played 250 games for the Gills following his move from QPR five years ago.

Popular Ashford-based defender Barry Fuller impressed again during the 2019/20 campaign but is one of those players Evans must decide whether to hand a new deal to. Fuller turns 36 in September but has had two great years since returning to Priestfield.

Strikers Brandon Hanlan and Mikael Mandron will both hope to have done enough to earn new deals. Frenchman Mandron scored twice in Gills’ last game, a 2-2 draw at Sunderland in early March.

Midfielders Ben Pringle, Regan Charles-Cook, Henry Woods, Ouss Cisse - who was loaned out to Leyton Orient - and Mark Byrne - recovering from injury - will all be wondering if they are in Evans’ plans.

Lee Hodson is in contract but spent the latter stages of the campaign at St Mirren.

Southampton loan pair Alfie Jones and Tom O'Connor both bid farewell on Tuesday and Jordan Graham - on loan from Wolves - expressed his gratitude for his brief time at the club.

Winger Graham tweeted: "A shame for the season to end how it has, but I will look back having really enjoyed my time with the Gills.

"I have made friends for life. I want to thank all the staff as well. The fans have also been amazing with me since the day I joined. All the best for the future Gills."
