Gillingham will play away to Premier League side Luton Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup

Gillingham will face Premier League opposition in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Luton Town, who won promotion to the top-flight in May, will await the Gills at Kenilworth Road on week commencing August 28.

Gillingham progressed to round two of the competition after a memorable win over Southampton at Priestfield on Tuesday night.

Luton begin life in the Premier League this Saturday away to Brighton.

The Gills have had a super start to their season, winning at Stockport on the opening weekend and then deservedly beating the Saints at Priestfield in the first round of the League Cup.

The Gills last played at Luton in 2019 in a League 1 encounter, drawing the match 2-2. Tom Eaves and Luke O’Neill were on target. The Hatters won the title that season and on May 27 this year they beat Coventry City in the Championship play-off final to earn a spot in the Premier League.
