Gillingham's former player Danny Lloyd returns from injury and signs for League 2 Rochdale

Former Gillingham forward Danny Lloyd is back from injury and could face his old team soon.

Lloyd suffered cruciate and medial knee ligament damage in Gillingham’s game at Ipswich Town, a massive blow at the time as the lively forward was coming into some good form. On the day of the injury he was Gills’ main man against Ipswich.

Harris admitted it was a big loss at the time but Liverpool-born Lloyd returned north to rehabilitate and no move was made to tempt the player back. Now fit, after a long rehabilitation, the player has signed for Rochdale.

Lloyd, 31, scored five goals for the Gills last season, from 34 appearances, including the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Crewe, scoring from the penalty spot days before his injury at Ipswich 10 months ago.

He had scored his 100th career goal while with the Gills, a stunner against Cambridge United.

Gillingham play away at Rochdale on February 18.

On signing a “short-term deal” for his new club, Lloyd said: “It’s a really good opportunity for me to get back into the mix.

“I’ve been out for a while but been working really hard to make sure that I get back in the best possible shape.

“I’m thankful to the club and the gaffer for bringing me in, and ultimately giving me the opportunity to play some games. Hopefully, I can come in and get some minutes on the pitch. I need to train well, do the business, and who knows what can happen next.

“I’m ready to go. I’ve been waiting a long time for this. I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch for the club very, very soon.”
