Invicta Dynamos’ quest for a clean sweep of National League trophies ended on Sunday when they lost 2-1 on the night, and 5-2 on aggregate, to Sheffield Spartans in the ENIHL Cup final.

Trailing 3-1 from Saturday’s first leg at Ice Sheffield - a game in which Andy Smith had given the away side an early lead - Invicta welcomed back Milan Kostolny for Sunday’s second leg.

However, even with their top point-scorer back in the line-up, the home side could only beat visiting goalie Ben Browns once, by which time Sheffield had extended their aggregate lead.

Chris Turner was the scorer at 7.50, when he shot past Joe White after Joe Millard was allowed to skate from one end of the rink to the other.

The home side’s response came in the final minute of the first period through Andy Smith. Elliot Andrews found the forward in space, and Smith fired past Browns.

For the rest of the game Invicta tried to find a way back into the tie, but as time ran down, and White was pulled for an extra skater, Richie Oliver scored an empty net goal to seal the trophy for Sheffield.
