The future of Andrew Crofts remains uncertain after the Gillingham midfielder failed to come to an agreement over the settlement of his contract.

Crofts returned to Priestfield after his loan with Peterborough came to an end and Gills manager Mark Stimson explained: "He’s not going to be going back.

"A deal could have possibly been done before the end of the transfer window, but then he’d only have been able to stay there 93 days on a loan period, and he’s done most of those anyway.

"He goes away with the Welsh squad this week and when he comes back we’ll have a chat and decide what is best. If no one else wants to take him, he’ll stay.

"If he has his contract cancelled now, he can’t go and play professionally. The only way he can go out is on loan.

"It might be that he is loaned out somewhere else."
