Chatham boss Paul Piggott says side will throw caution to the wind in final matches

It’s all or nothing now for Chatham.

Boss Paul Piggott knows his team are odds-on to be relegated but he won’t be going down without a fight.

Chats are 10 points from safety with nine games left and look set to be playing Southern Counties East football next season.

A 4-1 home defeat to Horsham last weekend was a hammer blow to their hopes and Piggott will let the shackles off, starting at Walton Casuals on Saturday.

He said: “We had a chat before last Saturday’s game and said we needed to win. We’ve made it even tougher now.

“We have nine games left and need six or seven wins which is more than we’ve had all
season. It is a tough ask but we are not going to be heading into games not wanting to win.

“We need to hope other teams lose but we’re not in the driving seat anymore, we are reliant on others.

“We’ll be going for it against Walton Casuals, we have to. If we lose 5-4 then so be it but I would rather that than sit back.

Ricky Freeman was sent off last weekend - his second dismissal since joining in November - and Piggott is now looking for a replacement ahead of a ban.

He said: “We might have to find other players. He will be facing a suspension and we will need to replace him if we can.

“We are also still looking for a centre-half and I am in talks with one.”
