Gillingham midfielder Mark Bentley described Saturday’s late defeat at Aldershot as "devastating".

Bentley, who played 114 times for the Shots between August 1999 and May 2002, had his return ruined as Gill' hopes of nicking a point were shattered.

He said: "We were devastated at the end to give away the goal after Simeon Jackson got us back into the game.

"To work hard with 10 men for so long, we thought we deserved something.

"Defensively we were so solid and every set- piece we defended well – that was the difference from last week (at Shrewsbury).

"We wanted to show that we are strong and we won’t just lie down and die.

"I saw a few old faces there, which was nice, but I was desperate to win."

Bentley was back in the starting 11 after having to settle for a place on the bench in the previous three matches.
