Widow speaks out about
her husband's organ donation

The organs of a
popular railway station supervisor, who died suddenly at the age of
38, have been used to help save the lives of five people.

Jason Newman and his wife Val would have celebrated their first
wedding anniversary on Sunday.

Jason, who worked at Strood station, collapsed with a brain
haemorrhage while leading a staff meeting and died the
following day.

He was not on the donor register, but Val felt he would have wanted his
organs to be used for transplants.

She received a letter from the NHS to tell her that her husband had
helped three men aged 46, 42 and 35, a teenage boy of 19 and a baby
girl aged 18 months.

Val, of Victoria Street, Gillinghamin, said: “I cried loads when I
got the letter and I felt very proud, it was a comfort to know he
had helped save lives.

“Of all the five he helped, knowing about the little girl affected
me the most. If just one person, like Jason, can save someone else,
then why not?”
