UPDATE: Arrests after police chase in Walderslade

Two men were arrested following a police chase on Tuesday night .

The men, both from Strood, were arrested in Walderslade, Chatham, on suspicion of vehicle theft.

A spokesman for Kent Police said a police chase started around 10.40pm after a Vauxhall Corsa allegdly failed to stop for police officers.

The police helicopter was scrambled to help in the search and witnesses reported seeing up to five police cars and vans searching the area.

After finding the car abandoned on Walderslade Road, police immediately arrested two men at the scene.

They have now been released without charge in relation to the theft of the motor vehicle, but have been charged with other offences.

Robert Andrews, 21, of Canal Road, Strood, was charged with burglary in connection with the alleged theft of copper pipes from the Weston Arms pub in Weston Road, Strood.

He will appear before Medway Magistrates on October 1.

Alfie Volkert, 21, of Brompton Lane, Strood, was charged with dangerous driving, driving without a valid Licence, driving without insurance and failing to stop.

He too will appear before Medway Magistrates on October 1.
