Two men arrested after police chase ends in crash in John Street, Rochester, near its junction with Weatherly Close

Two men have been arrested after a police chase ended in a car crashing into a number of parked vehicles.

Photos posted on social media show the aftermath - with one resident saying they heard "a loud bang".

The crash happened in John Street, Rochester, near its junction with Weatherly Close, where it becomes Cobden Terrace, just after 10pm on Tuesday (August 29).

Pictures show a number of damaged vehicles, including a Land Rover, Volkswagen Golf and BMW.

A police spokesman said officers in an unmarked car had become suspicious about a vehicle as it was being driven along Strood High Street towards Rochester at about 10.10pm.

After a short chase, it crashed and two people were seen leaving on foot.

Numerous residents heard the crash.

One reported hearing a “loud bang” which she thought was “someone driving into the bins”.

Another said she “feels sorry” for whoever “cars have been smashed”.

A John Street resident said that “the smash was so loud” and that her “poor neighbour's car got hit and is a write-off”.

A 21-year-old man and a 23-year-old man were arrested.

They were detained on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and possession with the intent to supply cannabis.

The 21-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of failing to stop.

The men have since been bailed while inquiries continue.
