A mother of four-year-old twins is facing a school-run nightmare.

Jayne Gleed, 43, has been told her sons William and John Gallagher will not be able to go to their nearest school, St Helen’s Primary, Cliffe, in September when they are due to start.

William has been allocated a place at Cliffe Woods Primary School and John at High Halstow Primary School. Both are about four miles away while their preferred choice is within walking distance.

Jayne who lives with her sons in Thatchers Lane, Cliffe, says it is not logistically possible for her to get her sons to the different schools.
If the decision isn’t reversed the single mum faces having to give up work at a London primary school.

She said: “I’ve been in tears since I opened the letter. I just can’t get my head around it. How can I manage to get them to the different schools?

“The twins are very close, they have always been together and have been at the same nursery since they were nine months old. It’s not fair that they will be separated.”

“I just keep crying about it. I don’t want to become a mother who does not work."

Medway Council says it always tries to match places to parents desired schools but it was not always possible to do so because of the demand for places at certain schools.

A spokesman said: "During the coming weeks there will be some change to school allocations, as places may not be taken up which may result in additional places being made available.”
