Tragedy averted in Steps blackout

It was a tragedy for Step fans in Rochester last night after a technical glitch cut the band's set short.

The 90s pop sensations performed at the Castle Concerts as part of their reunion tour, but had to stop just three songs in after the stage plunged into silence following a loud bang.

The band, who are currently on a summer tour after reuniting last year, were ushered backstage while crews scrambled to fix the sound for the second time during the event.

Some audience members started to shout "we want Steps" while other angrier fans started to boo.

The band came back 20 minutes later ironically singing Better Best Forgotten, but some fans who paid £35 for a ticket won't be able to forget the technical hitch so easy after a shorter set saw one of their biggest hits - '5, 6, 7, 8' - cut from the show.

After coming back on stage band member Ian 'H' Watkins addressed the crowd saying: "I know we're playing in a castle, but you would have thought somebody would have put 50p in the meter."

Lee Latchford Evans later tweeted: "Great gig at Rochester tonight & thank you for all the support especially when the generator went down. U guys were fab x"
