Toddler rescued from locked car after parents collect kmfm Music Blaster competition prize

A toddler was rescued from a car in kmfm's car park after her parents visited our offices in Strood to collect a competition prize.

Corrine Rice, 29, and her partner, Lucy Colrein, 26, visited Medway House, in Strood, to collect a summer sound system she’d won on the Music Blaster competition.

The couple left the car to have a cigarette when the vehicle locked itself, trapping Piper, aged 22 months, inside.

Corrine said: “I came to collect the prize and the car just locked itself. We were so lucky, we managed to talk to the nice people in kmfm and the AA came out to free her, so she was only in there for about 30 minutes.

“It was the last thing we needed.”

Lucy said: “It was a huge relief it was really scary. She’s going through a clingy stage at the moment so we were really worried she was going to panic when she saw us outside the window but couldn’t get to us.

“Luckily it wasn’t hot.”

The couple, who are from Margate, also thanked everyone who came to their aide.

Paul Salmon from the AA and Aggi Avgusti, from the Car Doctor garage on Medway City Estate, came to the rescue and freed Piper in just a few minutes.

Mr Salmon said: “We get called out quite a lot to children who are stuck in cars.

"Usually people smash the window but give us a few minutes and we’ll get there.”
