Mehmet Ucal and Conner Robinson admit robbing Frankie Sutton on a night out in Chatham

Two thugs robbed a man of his mobile phone and wallet after rendering him unconscious with one punch.

Mehmet Ucal, 21, and Conner Robinson, also 21, carried out the robbery in Railway Street, Chatham, after an earlier argument with the victim in a nightclub.

The pair had bumped into their victim, Frankie Sutton, who was sitting with friends on a bench outside the Prince Of Wales pub in September last year.

CCTV footage captured the entire crime and was shown to Judge Jeremy Carey during a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court.

Ucal, of Magpie Hall Road, Chatham, is seen on the footage punching Mr Sutton, who is immediately knocked unconscious and falls to the ground.

Ucal can then be seen going though the man’s pockets.

His friend, Robinson then comes over and joins in the attack on Mr Sutton and the pair also kick the man while he is on the ground.

One of Mr Sutton’s friends, Jamie Mackie, then tries to stop Ucal and Robinson, of Graham Close, Gillingham, taking more items from him, and is attacked by Robinson.

After seeing the footage played in court, Ucal and Robinson both pleaded guilty to robbery and assault and Ucal also admitted being in possession of a bladed article, namely a machete.

The court heard how on another night in September last year, Ucal was spotted wielding the machete in Luton Road, Chatham. The incident was also caught on CCTV.

Martin Yale, prosecuting said: “There is CCTV footage of it and Ucal is seen holding the weapon in his hand, wielding it.”

The court also heard Ucal had taken the machete outside into the street because he had been expecting trouble.

Mr Yale added: “The footage later shows him resting the machete on his shoulder.”

Judge Carey said: “This is an ugly incident, very unpleasant altogether.”

The pair are due to be sentenced at 2pm on Friday.
