Tia Mcall from Princes Park, Chatham, appeared in Channel 4's The Secret Life of Four Year Olds

Most parents would love to get a glimpse at the secret life of their toddler, and for one Chatham family a television programme has given them just that opportunity.

Tia Mcall, who lives in Princes Park, Chatham, with her parents and younger sister, Amelia-Rose, featured in Tuesday’s episode of The Secret Life of Four Year Olds on Channel 4.

Her parents, Cheryl and Glenn Mcall, saw an advert for the show at the theatre school Tia attends earlier this year and decided to apply.

Filming took place over 10 days in London during the summer holidays in a school assembly hall that had been converted into a play area.

Mrs Mcall said: “It was just like a nursery set up. They were told they were being filmed but they forgot really quickly.”

Using cameras hidden at the youngsters’ eye level, the producers, and the parents, were able to gain a unique insight into the lives of four-year-olds.

Mrs Mcall said: “I was quite surprised to see the scene where the girl had upset Tia and she went to a little boy for advice. We expected her to go to a teacher or an adult.”

After the show aired on Tuesday, Mrs Mcall said the feedback from friends and family had been really positive, and other parents at Tia’s school, Tunbury Primary School in Walderslade, said they liked the show.

She added: “We’ve had a really good experience. It’s been brilliant. Everybody has been fantastic.”

Mrs Mcall said she wasn’t sure what would happen next or whether there would be future series, but that the families have planned to meet.

“We all started off with the best intentions,” she said. “There’s quite a distance between us, but fingers crossed.”

The second episode of The Secret Life of Four Year Olds will screen on Channel 4 on Tuesday at 8pm.
