Teen robber caught with knife banned from Medway

A 15-year-old robber caught with a knife has been banned from the Medway Towns for 18 months.

The schoolboy, who cannot be named for legal reasons and now lives in Folkestone, was also slapped with a four-month curfew at Medway Magistrates’ Court.

It means he cannot leave his house between 6pm and 6am.

He will also have to participate in education, training or work for two months.

The teenager admitted robbing one boy in Newnham Street, Chatham, on Monday, January 28, taking an iPhone, headphones and bracelet.

He also admitted possession of cannabis after being caught with the drug the following day and having a knife at the Pentagon shopping centre, in Chatham High Street, in October. Both the weapon and the cannabis will be destroyed.

His accomplice — a 16-year-old boy from Chatham — has admitted the robbery and two others, which were committed in the town in July and November.

He will be sentenced for those offences after he stands trial for two other street robberies allegedly committed in October.

He was remanded in custody after appearing at Maidstone Crown Court last week and will next appear at the same court on Monday, June 24.
