Two teenagers arrested after car chase in Chatham

Two teenagers are being quizzed by police after a chase ended in one of their cars allegedly smashing into several parked cars and a police vehicle.

Officers had begun following the vehicle after becoming suspicious of it in Upper Luton Road, Chatham, at around 10.20pm yesterday.

It failed to stop and, following a short pursuit, crashed in Castle Road. A knife was found inside.

Paramedics attended but there were no reports of any serious injuries.

The alleged driver, a 19-year-old man from the town, had fled the scene but was later arrested in a house in nearby Shipwrights Avenue on suspicion of dangerous driving.

A 17-year-old girl, from Chatham, was also arrested at the property on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs after a quantity of suspected class B drugs were found. Both remain in custody.

South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman Rich Airey said: "We were called shortly before 11pm yesterday to reports of an RTC on Shipwrights Avenue, Chatham. One ambulance crew attended the scene. There were some minor injuries but no one required further onward treatment at hospital."
