Police catch would-be moped thieves in Gillingham

The value of having police on patrol was demonstrated last night when officers from the community policing team came across two teenagers believed to be in the process of trying to steal a moped.

They were carrying cutting equipment and standing over the machines in Dawes Street, Gillingham, at around 9.45pm.

The offenders made a run for it but were quickly caught and arrested.

An 18-year-old and a 14-year-old were later bailed to return to the police station on April 11 and 12 respectively.

The Kent Police Medway CPT is pro-actively targetting those looking to steal mopeds and motorbikes after a spate of recent incidents.
