Teenage girl arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife at Rainham School for Girls in Derwent Way

A teenager has been arrested after allegedly taking a knife into school.

Police were called to Rainham School for Girls in Derwent Way after staff were said to have found the 14-year-old girl in possession of the knife.

It was said to have been confiscated shortly after noon yesterday and she was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.

No-one was injured in the incident.

Yesterday, a spokeswoman for Rainham School for Girls said: "The school is aware of an incident which has taken place today (May 6).

"This incident was reported promptly to the police who are now investigating and liaising closely with the school.

"Due to this now being a police investigation we are unable to comment any further at this stage.

"However, we would like to reassure parents that no-one came to any harm during this incident.

"The safety and well-being of our students and staff is paramount and underpins everything we do and we take this very seriously."
