Police initially said they were called out to help ambulance staff to a medical incident at the accommodation block at 3.53pm and said no offences had been reported.

However, it was later confirmed a student had died, and police said this morning the death was not being treated as suspicious.

The university letter, from head of school Phil Hubbard, said: "I am afraid I must share some very bad news.

"Yesterday we were notified that one of our first year BSc Social Sciences students, Adam Myatt, was found dead in his room at Liberty Quays.

"It is believed he died of natural causes. His parents have been informed and his flatmates are being supported."
