Gillingham teen charged after suspected knifepoint car robbery in Batchelor Street, Chatham

A teenage boy has appeared in court after a car was allegedly stolen at knifepoint.

The owner of the vehicle was reportedly approached by an unknown person in Batchelor Street, Chatham.

On his return to his car, the victim was allegedly threatened with a knife and, fearing he would be harmed, handed over his keys.

His car was then reportedly stolen following the incident on Saturday, February 24.

Following an investigation by the Kent crime squad, a suspect was arrested in James Street, Gillingham on Wednesday (February 28).

A 17-year-old boy was later charged with robbery and possession of a knife in a public place.

He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday (March 1) and was remanded to a hearing at Medway Youth Court this Thursday (March 7).
