A stolen car was set alight on a road next to the M2 early today.

Thick smoke billowed across the motorway from the stolen Vauxhall Corsa, which had been set on fire on a road near Bredhurst at about 1am.

Firefighters from Medway were called to put out the flames and spent about a hour at the scene.

A spokesman said: "The car had been set alight on a road to the left of the motorway and the smoke was going right across the London-bound carriageway.

"It was thoughtless and could have caused an accident for motorists travelling on the motorway."
