A fire which broke out in a flat in Rochester is being treated as suspicious.

Firefighters from Strood and Medway were called to Delce Road yesterday (Friday) after receiving a report of a flat fire.

Three fire engines attended the scene at 10.20pm and battled the blaze for more than two hours.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said the flat was not badly damaged and no one was injured in the incident.

Police are treating the fire as suspicious.

Earlier this week a fire in the same street destroyed a family's home after an electric heater sparked a blaze.

That fire, which is being treated as an accident, severely damaged the flat above the owner's Premier grocery store.

The road was closed for almost two hours, and shops and flats were evacuated.
