Hoo Road in Wainscott is flooded and Corporation Street in Rochester has been closed because of flooding

Heavy downpours over Medway have resulted in localised flooding of roads in Strood and Chatham.

Motorists are being urged to take care on roads after heavy showers and thunderstorms hit the Towns.

Met Office experts placed a yellow warning for rain across the county until 10pm tonight.

A spokesman said: “These will become organised into slow-moving bands in places, leading to some torrential downpours, particularly later this afternoon and this evening.

“As on preceding days some locations will miss these downpours, but please be aware of possible localised flooding and disruption to travel where they do occur.

“Lightning could be an additional hazard.”

Up to 50mm of rain could fall in some places, it has been predicted.

In Hoo Road, Wainscott, Richard Reach, 41, who lives in Chattenden took this photo of the road flooded outside the Liberty Park housing estate.

In Walderslade, Lower Robin Hood Lane is also said to be flooded as is St Johns Road, also in Rochester.

The A2 Corporation Street, in the direction of Rochester Bridge is also closed due to flooding and a diversion is in place.

Strood high street has also just been closed because it is flooded.

Parts of the Esplanade also in Rochester are at a standstill as it is flooded.

Medway Council is urging motorists to take care on roads and the weather conditions are expected to be drier over the weekend.
