Lower Rainham Road to remain closed for water main repairs

A road closure is set to remain in place in Rainham due to ongoing works to fix a burst water main.

Work began yesterday at Lower Rainham Road, and is scheduled to continue until tomorrow, with the road shut in both directions from Riverside Country Park to Eastcourt Lane to allow for emergency repairs.

The closure is likely to compound traffic problems caused by multiple ongoing roadworks in and around Rainham.

This morning queues were backing up to the Kingfisher Green housing development and drivers were having to turn round.

Yesterday the closure combined with an accident on Keycol Hill in Newington to cause long delays for drivers heading from Medway to Sittingbourne on the A2.

Southern Water has been approached for further information on the repair works.
