Teen arrested after police chase through Gillingham and Chatham

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of stealing a car after a chase that ended in a crash in Chatham this morning.

Just after 10am, officers on patrol in Victoria Street, Gillingham tried to stop a driver who ignored a no-entry sign.

The driver ignored them and carried on driving through Chatham, through a red light, and while travelling by The Brook, took a corner and lost control and crashed.

There was then a minor collision when the police car hit the crashed car.

No one was injured.

A 17-year-old from Gillingham was arrested on suspicion of taking a motor vehicle without consent and is in police custody.

One of the lanes is closed while an investigation is carried out.
