Hundreds of people are gearing up to enjoy a cuppa on Macmillan's World's Biggest Coffee Morning - one week today.

The flagship fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support, the Medway Messenger's charity of the year, takes place next Friday.

It is hoped this year's event will be the most successful ever to celebrate the charity's 100th anniversary.

More than 170 clubs, schools and businesses in Medway have already signed up to take part on Friday, September 30.

If you have not registered to hold an event, you can still support Macmillan by going along to one of the many public coffee mornings in the Towns.

Many venues will not only be serving tea, coffee and cake, but they will also be organising gift stalls, raffles, quizzes, walks and children's activities.

Walderslade solicitors Hatton Law, will once again be holding a coffee morning.

Last year, the firm's team of just two people raised £250 for Macmillan with the help of clients, friends and neighbours, and they hope to raise even more this time round.

The event next Friday, from noon until 2pm, will include a stall selling home-made cupcakes from Cakeadoodledandy, as well as a book stall and raffle.

Solicitor Deborah Hatton said: "We were thrilled to be able as a small niche firm to raise such a good amount last year and look forward to welcoming local people to do so again.

"The cupcakes, drinks, second-hand book stall and raffle all combine to provide an opportunity for people to relax and enjoy themselves whilst supporting this great cause."

Little ones will be doing their bit too. Staff at Brompton's Children's Centre have organised a Macmillan nature walk and coffee morning on Wednesday, October 5. The day will include a raffle and a talk from a Macmillan ambassador about how the money they raise will make a difference to cancer sufferers.

Liz O'Hanlon, Macmillan fundraising manager said: "Thank you to all the World's Biggest Coffee Morning hosts in Medway. We are so excited that you will all be taking part in this year's centenary event. The money you raise will improve the lives of cancer patients and their families."
