Gillingham doctor from the Woodlands Family Practice found dead at his home by police, inquest hears

A popular doctor was found dead at his home by police, an inquest opening has heard.

Dr Conor O'Loughlin, who worked at the Woodlands Family Practice in Gillingham, died on Saturday, March 11.

The 51-year-old, who also lived in the town, was discovered by police after his wife rang 999 when she became concerned he wasn't responding to messages.

Presiding over the hearing into the Dublin-born doctor's death, coroner Katrina Hepburn adjourned matters until June 6.

Tributes poured in from patients for the well-respected and much-loved doctor.

A message from the practice in Woodlands Road read: "It is with deep sadness and regret that we inform you of the death of our colleague and friend Dr Conor O'Loughlin who passed away unexpectedly.

'He was the nicest, kindest doctor I ever had...'

"We send our condolences to his friends and family and ask for privacy for them. We ask all or patients for their support and patience at this difficult time."

More than 80 messages were left on social media paying tribute to the father.

Nikita Plodder said: "That's such sad news, he went the extra mile during lockdown. Pharmacy wouldn't deliver my kids medication when we were shielding. Dr Conor came on his lunch break and delivered it by hand. RIP."

While Louise Smith added: "Such sad news. Doctor Conor was the only doctor who ever took real time and care into helping myself and my problems. He was the nicest, kindest doctor I ever had, who went above and beyond to take care of his patients.

"So shocking as I saw him just last week and he gave me the best last bit of advice and I told him he was my favourite doctor. Always took time to care for my son and I if we had a problem.

"Loveliest doctor, only one who ever actually listened. Rest in peace."

Roxanne Marie commented: "So sorry to hear this, such sad news. Conor was my doctor at Woodlands and I also looked after his children in the nursery.

"Sincere condolences such a lovely family.Absolutely devastated will always remember the laughs and the jokes.May you rest in peace Dr O'Loughlin."

Dr O'Loughlin had worked at the health centre since September 2016.

He was educated at King's College in London.
